Ellsworth NoonTime Rotary Student Mentoring Committee Paul Pangburn Judie Tardiff Chris Klenk SEPTEMBER 24, 2009 (Ellsworth High School) We will be meeting at the High School and lunch will be purchased at the school. We will be meeting the ten students who will be participating in the program. The meeting will open with the Rotarians introducing themselves (name & where they work). Next, two Rotarians will introduce a student with a bio provided by the student in advance. After being introduced to the club, each student will be presented a pin to honor their commitment to the program. After all students have been introduced, we will watch a quick video introducing the students to Rotary. NOVEMBER 5, 2009 (Maine Grind) The Ellsworth High School Guidance office will come in and prepare our club for the November 19th meeting we will be having with the students. Linda Fuller and Bev Homich will speak about career paths and what information would be helpful for Rotarians to share with students in the November 19th session. NOVEMBER 19, 2009 (Maine Grind) We will be meeting with the High School Students in a “Speed Dating Format” to speak to them about our career paths and how we arrived at our current job today. The goal of this session is to open the students minds to the idea that business people get to the same job through different career paths and you may end up working in a profession different from where you thought you would be. There will be 5 groups of Rotarians (4 to 5 Rotarians per group) with 2 students per group. Each Rotarian will speak for roughly 3 minutes touching upon the information suggested by the guidance office. Time should allow for each pair of students to meet with 2 groups of Rotarians. JANUARY 21, 2010 (Maine Grind) Barbara Hepburn from the HR Department at Bar Harbor Banking and Trust will be coming in to speak to the club and students about the business interviewing process. She will speak for roughly 10 minutes touching on topics such as proper interviewing attire and skills. Mike Madigan, Admissions Counselor from the College of the Atlantic, will speak to the students about the college admissions process. He will speak for roughly 10 minutes about what to expect in a college interview. The remaining time will be allotted for questions for both Barbara and Mike. FEBRUARY 25, 2010 (Maine Grind) Elizabeth McMillan from the HR Department at Bar Harbor Banking and Trust and Mike Madigan from College of the Atlantic will prepare our club for our interviewing exercise with students on March 4th. Elizabeth and Mike will set the framework for which we will be using when interview the students by explaining how to conduct a professional interview and what types of questions to ask. MARCH 4, 2010 (Maine Grind) We will be meeting with the High School Students to conduct professional mock interviews. Juniors will participate in mock college entrance interviews, while seniors will take part in mock job interviews. Each student will be teamed up with 3 Rotarians. One Rotarian will be interviewing the student, while the remaining 2 will be observing and filling out feedback forms. Students will be interviewed for approximately 15 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of feedback from the Rotarians. The Feedback forms will be given to the student, along with a list of resources of how to improve upon their weaknesses. Time permitting we will run through the basics of personal finance (importance of savings and credit card use). MAY 13, 2010 We will be conducting a 4-Way Test discussion project based on the article in the April 2009 edition of the Rotarian with the students.
